2023 Eltham Artshow - Acknowledges Our Expertise
ELTHAM ART SHOW ACKNOWLEDGES OUR EXPERTISE.
 
Gonvenor of the successful and recently concluded Eltham Art Show, Brenda Ibels, has acknowledged the valuable contribution of ‘our’ Brenda (Innes) and Lyn Bertali (former Camberwell Rotarian). She said the 2023 Art Show brought out the best efforts of some very special people and thanked Brenda and Lyn for their ‘tiresome efforts in superbly curating the show.’ The Art Show is presented by the Rotary Club of Eltham and the Nillumbik Shire Council.  Lyn has been a hard working supporter of our Art Show, particularly this year with Brenda being away overseas. Brenda Ibels likewise made a significant contribution during the busy lead up to our 2023 Art Show for which we are most grateful.
 
The 2023 Eltham Art Show Best in Show Winner was awarded to Greg Allen- ‘Ocean Might, Venus Bay’ Watercolor on paper (see pic).

Each of us has lived experiences that shape the sense of who we are and the way we see the world. Because we understand things from our own perspective, we're all biased.
 
We're often unaware of our own biases, which is why it's called unconscious bias. But drawing on our collective perspectives will make us more effective as a group.

Global ChatGPT Workshops: Embracing Generative AI in Rotary
 
In August 2023, Stephen Sennett, President of the Rotary E-Club of Melbourne conducted a number of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Below is an article that will appear in the Networker in due course:
 
Navigating the landscape of emerging technology can often seem daunting. Recently, Generative AI has come to the forefront as a significant topic of interest, specifically ChatGPT - an AI-powered chatbot known for its ability to generate natural-sounding, human-like dialogue.
 
The Rotary E-Club of Melbourne, with a decade-long history of pioneering the adoption of technology within Rotary, continues to act as a catalyst for clubs to optimize their use of technology. Under the leadership of President Stephen Sennett, a technology consultant and educator specializing in cloud technology and AI, we conducted a series of interactive workshops to educate both Rotarians and Rotaractors on how to utilize ChatGPT, particularly for enhancing Public Image.
 
Rotary members from over twenty Districts globally participated in these workshops. The sessions not only covered the practical applications of ChatGPT but also delved into the theory behind its operation and potential challenges.

ROMP Road Show – August 2023 Traralgon, Victoria

 
Background
 
The Rotary Club of Camberwell has been engaged with Myeloma Australia since it began more than twenty-five years ago. The Rotary Outreach Myeloma Program (ROMP) is an ongoing community service program of the Rotary Club of Camberwell in collaboration with Myeloma Australia.

The ROMP Scholarship is a project run by a Rotary Club of Camberwell Committee, collaborating with Rotary Clubs of regional Victoria. The scholarship is offered to selected registered nurses employed in rural and regional cancer centres or clinics in Victoria to complete a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing at Melbourne University. The online course is over a year on a part time basis. The scholarship is funded by participating Rotary clubs, their communities and sponsors.
 
‘We are tackling myeloma - and all cancers - in regional Victoria, one Rotary Club and one nurse at a time'.

Rotary Consortium Timor Leste WASH Project 2023
The Timor Leste Rotary Consortium team - Vijay Susarla and Justine Paragreen are back visiting Timor-Leste, on a scoping trip for the next stage of our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project. As part of this scoping trip for the next stage of the Timor Leste Rotary Consortium WASH Project, we’ve been undertaking due diligence and assessing potential sites for toilet blocks and water tanks in several villages, such as Triloka as the project expands into the Manatuto and Vikeke Districts.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Camberwell.

The Camberwell Rotary Club has been proudly serving the community since 1956.
 
Our organisation like others had to pause all our “hands on” activities during the last two year’s lockdowns. However we are reinvigorated and fully focussed on our signature fund-raising events (Camberwell Art Show, Hawthorn Makers Market, Camberwell Sunday Market and Bunnings Sausage Sizzles) and the many community projects we support, both local and international. This means our members are once again able to actively engage in identifying community needs and respond to these needs with financial, in-kind and hands on support.
 
That’s what being a Rotarian is all about, and is at the core of our Club’s purpose. Our members enjoy strong friendships while willingly giving their time and effort to serve our community with a range of programs.
 
Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

We generally hold our weekly Dinner Meetings at Conochie Hall, however we often meet at other interesting locations, so check the Upcoming Events list. Visitors and guests are always welcome. We meet at at 6:00 for a 6:30pm start and finish 8:00pm.
