Rotary friends and friends of Rotary

The good name of the Camberwell Rotary Art show has been evident once again with very strong numbers on the website since the launch on the 10th July, Art Sales numbers as of last Tuesday 20th  were over $75,750 which accounts for 79 paintings sold, we need to keep the momentum going as a club, it’s not too late to get cracking and spread the word  with friends ,family and colleagues to make sure we come home strongly in the final week of the show

Thanks to Andrew Hunter as guest speaker last week to step up at the last minute and give us a wonderful visual of Rotary in Action on a RAWCS project to Samoa

The PP night has been rescheduled to when we are back meeting in person

August is shaping up to be a fantastic month for Camberwell Rotarians
A couple of dates to save :

4th August District Governor Dale & Maureen will be visiting the club, a night not to be missed

Sunday 8th August: After nearly two years work, this mutli club R100 playground project is now completed and ready for the official opening by our honorary member the Mayor of Boroondara, Cr Garry Thompson, and Rotary District 9800 Governor Dale Hoy. The opening will be accompanied by a fabulous Family Fun Day from, 12 noon - 3:00pm, as we all know PP Murray & Teresa and her community services committee were actively involved in this R100 project and as a club we should be there in numbers to support the grand opening of this project.

Wednesday 18th August: The Past Presidents night has been rescheduled, the plan is for a partners night with Spitting image catering

The Hawthorn Makers Market has been scheduled for Sunday 1st August 10am – 3pm, as a club we need this fundraising activity to continue to be successful, wouldn’t it be great if we all try and support this wonderful activity and drop in and support the stall holders

Next week 28th we will be meeting again on Zoom with David Dippee from DIK presenting.

The club also sends its condolences ,during this sad time  to Patty Laufernberg who’s mum aged 92 passed away last Tuesday.

That’s it from me for this week, have a good week in Rotary and Stay safe

Making Friends with your Club Website
This is the first in a series of articles to help you become familiar with the amazing functionality of our Club's website. Today we will talk about the Home Page Menu Bar, and specifically the "About Our Club" tab:

These Menu options are described in detail as follows:

1. Meeting and Location: this is useful for visitors and potential new members to see where and when we meet. Clicking on this tab gives the address of Conochie Hall and the day and time we meet. There is even a venue map available.

2. Club Executives: this gives a listing of all the Club Executives, as well as a listing of all the Club Committees and their Chairs.

3. The "Contact Us" tab gives an input form that is automatically emailed to the current Secretary. The Contact Us button also appears elsewhere on the Home Page and this is the first point of contact for many of our new member prospects.

4. Club History: this currently features separate documents for the First Meeting and Charter of the Club, the list of Past Presidents, a list of all Club members who have been recognised as Paul Harris Fellows, and a list of all Club Members who have been given Royce Abbey Awards (these lists will be updated annually in July).
The Club History option will also be where all the Club history, stories, Member's reminiscences, images and memorabilia will be stored - a work in progress, so watch this space.

Go to our Home Page at www.camberwellrotary.com.au and look for yourself.

Until next week.

Back on the Zoom again!
Who would have thought it? But here we are, 37 of us back on the Zoom again!!

Patrick handled his first online Zoom meeting with great confidence & his usual flair, Nick was a great Chair, and Andrew entertained and informed us with a fantastic presentation on Rotary's work in Samoa - the meeting was enjoyed by all.
Yarra Bank Playground Invitation: 8 August 2021 starts 12 midday
You are all invited to the Gala Opening of our Club's major R100 Project: The Yarra BankReserve Playground, featuring the remarkable Rotary-funded interactive play sculpture.
Save the date 8th August, commencing midday. Bring your partner, spouse, children, grandchildren and friends and make it a real Family Fun Day.

Our clubs, the Rotary clubs of Glenferrie, Camberwell, Hawthorn and Canterbury have combined to mark the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Rotary in Australia with a unique gift to the Boroondara community, assisted by a District Local Grant from The Rotary Foundation.

The new playground at beautiful Yarra Bank Reserve Hawthorn, landscaped by Jeavons Landscape Architects, will feature as it's centrepiece, a unique interactive play sculpture crafted by internationally renowned playground sculptor Benjamin Gilbert of Agency of Sculpture in Yackandandah, a gift from our clubs to the community to mark the Rotary Centenary in Australia. This unique sculpture captures the spirit of this place, once the site of Palmer's Ferry that joined the City of Richmond with the Parish of Boroondara until the mid 19th Century, when a wooden bridge was built.

After nearly two years work, the playground is now completed and ready for the official opening by the Mayor of Boroondara, Cr Garry Thompson, and Rotary District 9800 Governor Dale Hoy. The opening will be accompanied by a fabulous Family Fun Day on Sunday August 8th, 12 noon to 3:00pm. Our clubs have been joined by the Rotary clubs of Balwyn and North Balwyn to bring this opening event to the community.  There will be face painting, music, a magician, a hoopist (come along and find out what that is) and Rotary Club of Canterbury's famous Bees Waggle Dance. The Rotary Club of Balwyn will run their world famous gourmet sausage sizzle, there will be Pookie May's vintage coffee van, and cakes for the weight conscious.

Your good work through fundraising has enabled this gift to the Boroondara community. Please come along and be part of the opening celebrations, and be sure to bring the whole family! Let's make this  a great celebration of the strength of Rotary in Boroondara.

On behalf of the Boroondara R100 Committee, the Presidents of our six clubs, and our very own Teresa Molella we very much hope to see you and your families, especially the little ones, at the Yarra Bank Reserve, corner of Creswick and Denham Streets, Hawthorn, on Sunday August 8th, 2021 from 12 noon.

In the words of Benjamin Gilbert: 'The play sculpture is meant to demonstrate that when people work together they can create something magnificent".

Boroondara Bee Series

Honey bees and Australia’s native bees play a critical role in our environment. They pollinate many of the crops we eat and without them, we can grow less food. Life is getting harder for our bees, with climate change, loss of natural habitat, intensive farming practices, chemical use, parasites and diseases all impacting on global bee numbers.

Fortunately there are things we can do to help! Attending one or more of our three August bee workshops could be a great way for you to start. This series will take you into the fascinating world of bees. You will learn about the importance of bees, how to identify different species, the needs of different types of bees, how to create habitat for them in your own backyard, and how to set up and manage your own honeybee hive and produce your own honey.

Invite family and friends and book into one, two, or all three workshops!

Please note: If COVID restrictions do not allow these events to run face to face, they will either be delivered online or will be postponed to a later date.
