We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

The last club meeting was a lively gathering at the Barrel & Roast restaurant organised by the Fellowship Committee whom we thank sincerely. It was pleasing to have the event well supported with 12 spouses/partners joining us. The guest speaker, David Whiting entertained us with tales while dispensing free legal advice to ABC Radio Melbourne listeners since 1983. A Rotarian of nearly 40 years David has been as giving to his Club, District as well as many individual Rotarians. It was delightful to have David and his wife Marie, as guests of the club.
A new member was also inducted last night. We congratulate and welcome our newest member Sandy Chappell who was introduced to the club by her husband, Andy. Sandy is a talented individual who promises to be an asset to the club.
A Royce Abbey Award recognises a club member who demonstrates commitment, enthusiasm and outstanding commitment to the Ideals of Rotary. It was an absolute pleasure to present a Royce Abbey Award each to Kieran Healy and Trish O’Hara. Both these members fulfil the requirements of this award and we are grateful for their efforts during their short membership. Their contribution has mainly been for Kieran as our Bulletin Editor, and Trish as Chair of the ROMP (Rotary Outreach Myeloma Program) Nurses Panel. Congratulations for receiving this well-deserved award.
Congratulations also to Kieran and Caroline on the wonderful news of their impending parenthood. We wish them all the very best.
Thank you to members Gary Goldsmith, Brett Campbell and Tim Landsberg who were rostered at the Camberwell Sunday Market on 30 April.
The next club meeting will on Wednesday 3 May. The guest speaker will be Jason Harvey. His presentation will on the topical theme of sports injuries. He will share some insights of this interesting subject that’s affecting so many past and present prominent sporting personalities. We will also be inducting Viviane Chemali into the club’s membership.
Our District Governor Amanda Wendt wants to make a BIG DIFFERENCE during the 2023 Rotary International Convention.
How? By conducting the biggest ever FORaMEAL Packing Event in Fed Square on Saturday 27th May, with 15 packing tables set up. Amanda hopes to pack 100,000 meals, which will be going to people affected by the disaster in Ukraine, Turkey and Syria. To do this we hope to attract over 1,000 members of the public to work in one hour blocks from 10am to 4pm to pack the meals.
All D9800 Clubs are being asked for volunteers to help with Bump In, Bump Out or to act as Supervisors during the packaging. Click on the link below for more information and to volunteer:
