Guest Speaker – Graham Ross

We welcomed Graham Ross as our Guest Speaker and Graham is a KooyongKoot Catchment Keeper in the KooyongKoot Alliance (KKA). The KKA is comprised of over twenty Friends Groups working in the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) catchment in Melbourne. Coincidentally one of our members David Chu and another member’s wife Di Carra participate in two of these Friends Groups.

Graham discussed the aim of the KKA which is to shed light on the importance of Gardiners Creek, not just as a tributary of the Yarra River, but also as a key piece of green infrastructure in the east of Melbourne offering multiple benefits to both community and the environment.

The purposes of the KKA are to:

Establish a management plan for KooyongKoot with guiding principles.
Improve water quality and water management along KooyongKoot.
Have a continuous wildlife corridor along Gardiners creek.
Recognise that the traditional owners have a key role in the management of KooyongKoot.

The KKA is independent and incorporated as KooyongKoot Alliance Inc. and is a not-for-profit, registered charity with the ACNC. Our club members can assist by becoming members of the KKA or Volunteering or donating at https://kka.org.au/how-to-help/donations

Multi District Impact Summit

Our District Governor Nominee Graeme Hope gave us an update on the upcoming Multi District Impact Summit. Most importantly the reasons for going which are:

To connect with Rotarians and Rotaractors from Districts 9800 and 9510.
To share ideas and stories of our collective impact.
To learn from each other.

Further information is provided in Club Rotary News section of the bulletin, and the Membership chair has also provided an email to members about this event.

Change of Meeting Venue for Camberwell Rotary

Members in attendance were advised that BASScare are at least twelve months behind in any redevelopment of the site as significant consultation needs to occur and approvals given by council and other parties.

Therefore, we do not have to move from our current facility by 30^th June 2025. However, given we have commenced the process we will continue but the urgency to move is not as great. There is a self-catering opportunity being reviewed and members will be advised as soon as the information is available.

Under the leadership of Patrick Docherty, the committee will continue to work on this project so please continue to provide any suggestions to Patrick.

It is really important that we find an appropriate long term option/venue to put to members on which all Members will be required to vote. It will be the decision made by the members!

I look forward to seeing all the regulars and hopefully some of the not so regular members on Wednesday 26^th February at the Popular Kitchen Restaurant, 885 Burke Rd, Camberwell.

Rotary celebrates International Women’s Day 2025! International Women's Day is celebrated each year on 8 March to help recognize the achievements of women and support equality for women and girls.
