We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

We had our social night at Union Tree Thai restaurant in Surrey Hills. It is a very small restaurant and the sign on the door said “Private Event” which it was as we took up the whole space. Another very enjoyable night with great food, company, banter and prospective members.
Thanks again to Patrick Docherty and his team for organising. Given it was a footy themed event Patrick could not help himself and went to a lot of trouble (well he bought a wooden spoon, painted it and put on some stickers) to present me with the wooden spoon given Richmond had finished last on the ladder. Thank you Patrick and I will find a place near the 2017, 2019 and 2020 flags.
We have a couple of important weeks in the club calendar coming up which are the District Governors Visit on the 2nd October and our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9th October and I look forward to seeing as many members there as possible.
The AGM will be of particular significance as I will be advising the outcome of discussions with BASSCare and the use of the facility in the future.
See you all on Wednesday 2nd October.
Let the Magic of Rotary continue to Create Hope in our Communities and the World!

As you all know, volunteering at the Camberwell Sunday Market is an important part of our fundraising, as well as showing support to our Cluster Club the Rotary Club of Balwyn.
We have recently received communication from RC Balwyn outlining a 30% reduction in the gate takings over the last two years. Their report acknowledges that many of the reasons are outside their or our control (eg cost of living increases, cultural issues, younger age of patrons), the one thing we can influence is our engagement while greeting the Market patrons.
So in Balwyn Rotary's communication: The Market Committee requests that all volunteers be more engaging in welcoming patrons to the market and seeking a donation. We are not asking for aggression, be more engaging which encourages patrons to contribute.
Please keep this in mind during your next and subsequent Market Roster sessions.
Have you ever wondered which Sunday you have been allocated to? Can't find the email from Alan?
Then look no further! This new widget has been added to both our website Home Page - it's at the bottom of the right-hand column, right under the 3 most recent Bulletins. And it will be in each Bulletin as well. Just click on the blue "CSM Signup List" link. It's that simple - try it!
International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians-Australia
Dear Fellow Rotarian
One of the great things in Rotary are the fellowships, in Australia we have a golfing fellowship which runs an event each year somewhere in Australia. Next year from 6th-11th April 2025 we will be holding our event at the South Lakes Golf Club at Goolwa, SA. This is four days of golf for the Rotarians, four or three days of golf for the partners and visitors, plus organised tours for the partners who do not play golf.
Attached is a brochure which tells you a little about the event, it would be appreciated if you could forward this email to any golfers in your club. Also if members would like to find out more about the fellowship they can go to www.agfr.org
On the brochure there is a link to the Rotary Club of Adelaide website where Rotarians can register for the event.
Thank you for reading this email and letting your club know about the golfing fellowship.
Should anyone want more information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Last week I talked about Zachary Chu and the speech he gave on receiving one of the Scholarships afforded to him through our Clubs Gift Deed arrangement.
His speech in its entirety is below.
Good Evening everyone,
It is an honour to be here tonight to reflect on how the scholarship from this club has impacted my journey as a university student.
As a new migrant with a culturally and linguistically diverse background, who arrived alone in Australia shortly before the onset of the pandemic, when I first embarked on this path to pursue the Bachelor of Cyber Security, I knew it would be a challenging but rewarding experience. What I didn’t expect was the incredible support I would receive along the way.
This scholarship has been more than just financial assistance—it has been a vote of confidence, a reminder that my goals and dreams are valid and achievable. As a student, the financial pressures can often feel overwhelming, especially in the midst of the current cost of living crisis, such that managing them can easily take focus away from the actual learning experience. But thanks to this club’s generosity, I have been able to approach my studies with a clear mind, fully committed to absorbing the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the cyber security field.
Beyond the classroom, this scholarship has also allowed me to continue to contribute to my portfolio of diverse volunteering activities to champion in various capacities for different causes in climate change, youth empowerment, consumer representation in healthcare, disability and carer support, multicultural and ethnic advocacy, and diplomacy and international affairs. I would not be able to do so if I were too focused on juggling work just to make ends meet.
In particular, I would like to share with you the good news that since having been awarded the scholarship by this club, I have received the honour of being a finalist for 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards’ IKON Services Environmental Sustainability Award, and the emerging leader category of the Outstanding Leadership Awards, in recognition of my volunteering contributions.
Furthermore, having participated in RYLA last year, I am giving back by being a member of this year’s organising team. I am also looking to join a Rotaract club to start my journey as a Rotarian given the synergy between my volunteering activities and District 9800’s programmes concerning the healthcare and the environment.
What I have realised is that this scholarship is not just about reducing financial burdens. It is about empowering me to strive for excellence, both academically and personally. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. To this club, to my supporters, and to everyone who believes in the power of education and community. Your generosity has shaped my journey in ways I never imagined, and I am excited for the road ahead as I continue to pursue my dreams.
I am again delighted to share our latest newsletter with you, highlighting the incredible positive impact of Interplast throughout the Pacific and Asia regions. From the delivery of outstanding care in Papua New Guinea, to the return of our surgical teams to Kiribati, and a series of excellent meetings exploring long-term sustainable health care, the past months have again been busy and rewarding.
Our success in the region is driven by your support; so I encourage you to feel a sense of pride as you read the following stories, knowing that they are only made possible through your continued advocacy, engagement and funding. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Cameron Glover
Chief Executive Officer

This is vital fundraising to help to eradicate polio from the world.
Camp Getaway provides a quality recreational camp experience for people of all abilities. The target groups assisted at Camp Getaway are people with disabilities and special needs.
The Rotary Club of Camberwell has booked the dates above and we will again be assisted by our former member and now retired painter – Andy Spry.
Thousands of voluntary hours have gone into redeveloping the site, which now includes self-contained units with full disabled facilities, modern dormitories and many other improvements.
This working bee at Camp Getaway is a weekend away and provides a great opportunity for club fellowship. As there is always refurbishment and maintenance activities to be done this is a great hands-on Community project for our Club.
