We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.
At our last meeting, Martin Coleman, Founder and CEO of Your Age Advantage provided us with an interesting insight of the obstacles experienced by older folks in employment and other settings. He outlined the stereotype attitudes, biases and false premises misinformed individuals adopt when making decisions when assessing the worthiness of mature workers. It was reassuring to know that Martin’s work is focussed on addressing this issue and provide an alternative, more positive view substantiated by authoritative research.
The findings he shared reinforced what we already know with many of our mature members
continuing to contribute to a wide range of the club’s activities and programs. Of those who may have physical limitations, their experiences and wisdom are valued by our members as they take up the role of mentoring less experienced members.
Also covered at the last meeting, was advice that the Board met last week with the highlight being the allocation of funds to Committees, which will now provide the impetus to execute prioritised initiatives. A brief outline of an examination of the recent member attendance was also provided.

Next week our guest speakers will be Lara Jeyaretnam, Steve Dunn and Siraj Perera. They will provide an overview of Sri Lanka’s economic collapse and the work they are doing to assist the most disadvantaged.
The United Nations recently expressed alarm about the likelihood of human rights abuses in the midst of power shortages, crippling fuel crisis and the economic collapse in Sri Lanka, as the country grapples with unprecedented political turmoil.
Look forward to seeing you then.

ELTHAM ART SHOW GALA OPENING | 1st September 2022
You are invited to join the team at the Rotary Club of Eltham as they host the Gala Opening of this year's Eltham Art Show.
The opening will take place at the Eltham Community & Reception Centre, Main Road, Eltham, at 9:30pm on Thursday 1st September.
We have been travelling through South Australia and the Northern Territory over the last month.
The iconic Daly Waters pub is a favourite watering and traveller entertainment hole in NT - about 2,400 kms north of Adelaide, and 600 kms south of Darwin. They are famous for their "Beef & Barra" signature meal, and also country & western live entertainment.
Travellers have a particular custom here of leaving behind a memento or a message in the pub - invited & attached anywhere inside - whether it is tee shirts, socks, underwear, number plates, souvenirs, baseball caps etc
You will be pleased to know that the Myeloma cause is now front and centre in this famous pub - I know this as a fact ( and the pictures will support this ) - because it cost me my myeloma 38Mate tee shirt !
Great to know that now the myeloma cause and awareness will live on in this wonderful pub (that welcomes hundreds of different travellers everyday).
Adrian
If you have a good yarn from your travels this year we would love to hear about it. Be sure to send through a short story and some photos to Kieran to include in the next Bulletin!
