Last week was busier than normal with activities around The School of St Jude, ROMP Committee Meeting, Club Fellowship event, Myeloma Australia fundraising lunch and the Camp Getaway Working bee over the weekend.
The School of St Jude - Tanzania
It was great to meet the very dynamic, motivated, and inspirational Emma and to hear first-hand the latest updates, stories, and inspiring achievements from The School of St Jude in Tanzania. Joining her were two incredible alumni and aspiring young Tanzanian professionals and leaders, Winnie, and John, who showcased the school’s tangible impact.
Members may recall that we are providing sponsoring for a student which will cover 100% of a scholar's expenses for a full year which are - cost of tuition and exam fees, accommodation, learning resources and living expenses. It is really pleasing to know that our hard earned will be spent wisely and will have an enormous ripple effect.
Myeloma Australia Annual Fundraising Lunch
The event was well supported by Camberwell members so thank you to those who attended. Even though our club was not mentioned specifically, Rotary did get a mention. Unfortunately, as we were taking the picture below the lights were dimmed for a performance.
Camp Getaway Working Bee - 28th Feb 25 – 2 Mar 25
We did it again! Another Community Services activity was undertaken which was to paint the two main halls at Camp Getaway. The numbers were down this year, but our team of six members a partner and prospective member were again led by former member Andy Spry and two cohorts resulting in a successful outcome.
This time we had a new member and prospective member attend and by all accounts they had a great weekend. Additional information and pictures are in the Rotary and Club news section of the bulletin.
Fellowship Event – Popular Kitchen
Thank you to all club members and partners who attend the fellowship event at the Popular Kitchen last Wednesday. There were a range of very spicy dishes to try, and I appreciate that they were not to everyone’s taste. Again, the banter in the room certainly proves that fellowship is well and truly alive in the Rotary Club of Camberwell.
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 5th March back at Conochie Hall when Adrian Campbell will be our guest speaker, and we will recognise a significant member milestone.

Wednesday 5th March - Adrian Campbell will share with members his 2023 trip from Adelaide to the Northern Territory via a Motor Home. Included is a professionally prepared video presentation by his son Louis.
We will also recognise a significant Club Anniversary for one of our members.

Another successful Community Services activity which this club has undertaken over many years was completed this weekend. The numbers were down this year, but our team of eight were again led by former member Andy Spry and two cohorts.
We started at the Axedale hotel as we normally do on the Friday evening for dinner and a refreshing ale!
Andy Spry and cohorts Gary and daughter Chloe arrived at lunch time on the Friday and by the time we got there they had painted one of the halls.
It was then our turn on the Saturday to prepare the Dining and Lounge Hall for painting. This involved putting down drop sheets, moving furniture, covering everything in sight and removing many cobwebs from the walls and ceilings.
In-between Breakfast, morning tea and lunch on the Saturday were able to finalise the painting, sweep and vacuum the floors, clean the furniture, and restyle the hall. Many hands made light work.

Just as a reminder our International Committee led by Chris Carra has just last week overseen the completion of a highly successful WASH project being the 2 blocks of women's Menstrual Health Management toilets and the 2 blocks of urinals at the Kampong Thom High School which are now in use. Running Water Project managed the project flawlessly and organised a formal opening ceremony with the Deputy Governor of the Stung Sen province.
Our club received a Rotary Foundation District Grant for $8,000 for this project - DGI25.01 WASH Kampong Thom High School Sanitation Facilities.

‘Songs at the Silos’, is a free event, presented by the Rotary Club of Rochester, and supported by the Rochester Business Network, Elmore, Lockington, Rochester Community Bank and the Campaspe Shire.
Five incredible artists will be joining us at what will be an amazing evening.
Eleanor Blythman, Karen Van Spall, Michael Lapina and Andrew Miller from Opera Australia and Rochester’s own Evie Scoble.
Bring your chair and enjoy some wonderful music as the sun begins to set. Come early, find a good spot to sit, food available from 4:30pm. Enjoy quality time with family and friends before the performance begins.
Food is available on site provided by the Rotary Club of Bendigo and Lions Club of Rochester, soft drinks and water from the Rochester Scouts stall, and Mum and Me coffee.
