Our guest speaker for the evening was Mark Anderson from The Rotary Foundation. Mark is the Major Gifts Officer – Donor Cultivation, Acquisition and Stewardship in Zone 8. Mark gave us all an exceptional presentation which not only served to remind existing members about the Foundation but to also educate our newer members.

As Mark said The Rotary Foundation is Rotary International’s Charity and is highly rated and well managed so why not donate to The Foundation.

Search for a New Venue - Tower Hotel Trial

As mentioned in last week’s bulletin and then confirmed at the dinner meeting, we will have a trial dinner meeting at the Tower Hotel on Wednesday 9^th April. This is a normal meeting so please arrive at 6.00 pm for a 6.30 start.

It would be appreciated if as many members as attend as this will enable the board to get a better than 50% response which is around the current level of attendance at our dinner meetings. As at the time of writing this bulletin only fifteen members have actually registered their attendance.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Tower Hotel when Lindy Anderson delivers her Member Behind the Badge presentation, I will recognise a 35 Year Membership milestone and will also induct an Honorary member.

Thursday 8^th May – Our Club will celebrate with North Balwyn their 45 Year Anniversary at the Green Acres Golf Club, East Kew. Greg Ross tells me that there will be fantastic entertainment.

Have you recorded your 2025 Art Show Volunteer Commitments in your Calendar?

By now you would have received a number of Signup Confirmation emails from Alan Lorenzini. Alan has allocated you to these Shifts based on your previous availability and workload.

It's important you record these Volunteer Shifts in your diary/calendar, and if you use a digital calendar, you can click on the "event-details-ics" file at the bottom of the email - this will put the shift straight into your digital diary.

But would you like to see a list of all your Shifts in one place? Of course you would, and it's easily done:

Go to our Club website. Make sure you are logged in
Click on "Member's Services" on the Home Page Menu Line, and select "My ClubRunner"
Select the "Commitments" option, and there are all your Volunteer Tasks listed:

So you now can check and make sure all your Shifts are in your Calendar, either manual or digital. Remember the Art Show does not function efficiently if people do not attend for their allocated Shifts.

Help Rotary support flood victims in western Queensland

Dear Rotarian,

Following record-breaking rainfall, Western Queensland is being inundated by the worst floods to hit the region in fifty years, with more rain forecast for the next few days.

Hundreds of residents have been forced to evacuate, thousands of homes are at risk and farmers are losing substantial amounts of stock, significantly impacting their families and livelihoods.

The full scale of this situation is still unfolding, but it is expected to be severe.

Districts 9620 and 9560 are working together to support impacted communities. They have already appointed a disaster coordinator, conducted an initial needs assessment, and contacted state and local government authorities to collaborate. Addressing mental health issues will likely become a key focus of their efforts following the disaster.

How you can help

There are two ways you can support these efforts and be sure that the funds will help directly:

Myanmar & Thailand struck by devastating Earthquake

Dear ROTARY

ShelterBox is sending a team to Thailand, and we urgently need your help.

Myanmar and Thailand have been struck by a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake, causing widespread destruction. Tremors were felt as far as China when the earthquake hit central Myanmar

The full extent of the damage is still unknown, but early reports show enormous destruction across both Myanmar and Thailand.

This is a huge humanitarian crisis. We are deploying a team to Thailand.

Myanmar’s authorities have made a rare request for international humanitarian aid and declared a state of emergency across six regions. Similarly, Thai authorities have declared a state of emergency in Bangkok, where buildings are not designed to withstand such shocks. Vulnerable people in these countries will be homeless and in need of emergency shelter. They need your help.

ShelterBox is deploying a team to Thailand to coordinate efforts and determine how best to support those affected by the earthquake across the region. Your support is crucial in making this response possible.

We have experience supporting people in Myanmar and Thailand and urgently need your help while we understand the best way to respond.

Australian Rotary Health Needs Your Support

Dear Rotarian

My name is Harry Dempsey and I am the Secretary of the District 9800 Australian Rotary Health (ARH) Committee.

I am reaching out to seek your support for Australian Rotary Health (ARH). Our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians through research, awareness, and education is more important than ever, and we need your help to continue making a difference.

ARH Donations
Firstly, I would like to ask if your club could contribute to ARH from any spare fundraising money you might have.

Additionally, you may wish to contribute in the following ways:

Indigenous Health Scholarships

Rural Medical or Nursing Scholarships

Donate $100 to ARH on behalf of all your speakers. This is a simple and equitable way of rewarding the speakers for their time.

Even a small contribution can have a significant impact on the health projects and research initiatives we support.

ARH Speaker Opportunity
Secondly, we are looking for opportunities to raise awareness about ARH and its initiatives within the Rotary community. It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide speaker slots for ARH representatives during your meetings. These sessions can help raise mental health awareness and educate members on the vital work ARH is doing.

D9800 ARH committee
Lastly, we are seeking to expand the D9800 ARH committee and need at least one member from each of the new Community Groups. If you or someone in your club has a passion for health and in particular, raising the awareness of mental health, we would love to have them join our committee. We meet monthly via Zoom and their involvement would be warmly welcomed.

It is a wonderful way to serve Australian Rotary Health, as well as our District.

Your support is crucial in helping us achieve our goals and continue our work in promoting better health outcomes for all Australians.

In addition attached is a flyer for an online webinar on April 10^th from 6-8pm, which is designed to help people struggling with mental health or people who know others in such a situation. The cost is $20 per person and all money goes to ARH. Please distribute this flyer to your members.
