Presidential Press
On the 14th May we received a presentation on the Kampong Thom Project from Susie Lachal, Mr. Ho Sivuthy (Thy) & Mr. Vann Narith (Narit) all the way from Cambodia. A Rotary District Grant partly funded this project.
Thy is the project manager and team leader and is the Deputy Director of the Planning and Health Departments of the Provincial of Education in Kampong Thom. Narith is the Running Water Project’s construction manager and is the Principal at Porpel School. He brings great organisation and practical skills and manages local builders.
Thy and Narith's knowledge, management and communication skills make the projects happen and they expressed their sincere gratitude to Chris Carra and the Rotary Club of Camberwell.
The key themes and action plan from the Multi District Summit are:
Impact – Community Involvement is essential for Rotary success
Reach – We need to expand to new groups
Engagement – Retention and appreciation of all kembers is key
Adaptation - We need to proceed quickly with changes
The Keynote speakers were Nova Peris (OAM), Brad Chilcott AM, Eva MacKinley and Faith Coleman.
Rotary Updates and Initiatives were provided by Jennifer Scott (Regionalisation), Ian Steel (Kickstart for Kids) who provides school breakfasts, holiday camps, and uniforms and is now expanding to mental health support and laptops.
Dr. Suresh Marcandan (Australian Rotary Health) talked about the $55 million raised for research since 1981, ARH focus on adolescent mental health (affecting 40% of kids) and the launch of the Suicide Prevention App and “Lift the Lid Walks” for mental health awareness.
As a matter of co-incidence at the last board meeting the board decided to contribute some funds to Australian Rotary Health.
Tower Hotel – Wednesday 28th May
We are going to have a second trial run at the Tower Hotel. The event costs are the same as last time which is $40.00 for dinner, dessert, and a welcome drink. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Another thing I would like to share is about my social life at university. During my time here, I have made new friends from different places. This has given me the opportunity to learn new things from them, many of which have been very useful. I have been able to interact with them through discussions, sports activities, and other events. It has been a great experience meeting and connecting with new people at university.
At the end of February, we had our final examinations for the semester, which had started in early November last year. Since most of the modules in the first semester were introductory, they were easier to grasp. However, now in the second semester, we have additional modules, making it more challenging than the previous one. To achieve good results, I have planned to study hard and stay focused.
At the end of February and the beginning of March, we had a short holiday. During this time, I spent most of my days reading books and learning new things through the internet, which I had not known before. It was a great opportunity for self-learning. Additionally, I helped my younger cousins with their schoolwork, guiding them with their homework and teaching them some new things. I really enjoyed the holiday ;it was both productive and fulfilling.
Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for sponsoring my education. I am truly thankful for your support it means so much to me.

Support Needed for New South Wales Flood Emergency
Dear Member,
As communities across New South Wales face one of the most devastating flood emergencies in recent memory, we are once again called to act with compassion and urgency.
In just two days, parts of the state have received four months’ worth of rain, triggering flash floods that have inundated homes, cut off entire towns, and tragically claimed lives. Over 50,000 residents have been warned to evacuate or prepare for isolation, with major flooding affecting areas such as Taree, Wingham, Dungog, and the Mid North Coast.
Emergency services are stretched thin, conducting hundreds of rescues while many residents remain stranded. The full scale of the disaster is still unfolding, and the need for coordinated support is growing by the hour.
Rotary District 9660 is mobilising to assist affected communities. Disaster coordinators are being appointed, and collaboration with local authorities is underway. As with the Queensland response, mental health support will be a critical focus in the recovery phase.

Maybe it’s the ribbon-winning sponge queen of the local show, or the legend who brings baked brilliance to smoko every week. From kitchen benches to lunchroom tables, Bake Off wants to showcase Aussies who rise to the occasion — and yes, that includes the fellas!
