A Happy New Rotary Year to all of You. Our Theme for the new Year is “The Magic of Rotary”. As I said at Changeover there is no magic formula but what Rotarians achieve through their efforts actually makes the result look like Magic.

At our meeting on 3^rd July I focused on the goals for the 2024 / 2025 year. These goals remain largely unchanged as we have a great year and I wish to continue our good work.

Speaking of having a great year the highlight of the year was Eight New Members to the club.

However, we have lost a number of members, for a host of reasons - John Steven, Kristina Nicol, Justine Paragreen, Jeevan Vasimalla, Steve Clarke, Rick Westcott, Richard O’Brien, Neil Hookey, Jim O’Hara and Trish O’Hara. I thank them for their service to our club and community. We are starting the year with 52 Members and 2 Honorary members (Only 1 less than this time last year).

I acknowledge that our age demographic is not conducive to hands on projects. However, we as a club are very active in generating revenue through member participation in the Hawthorn Makers Market, Camberwell Market, Art Show & Bunnings barbecues so they need to continue. It should be noted that we have not actually increased our revenue raising projects.

A new project does not have to be hands on! We can collaborate with existing community groups and if we cannot find a project, we have to look no further than RCG /District/RI projects.

It is not the intention to increase the number of hours each member contributes but can we please think about how we can be more impactful. For example, can we engage volunteers where possible to assist the club in its endeavours. This is a perfect way to engage people who then hear about Rotary and what we do and naturally is a source for potential members.

Again, I ask Let’s THINK and DO things differently.

New Youth Initiative for Camberwell Rotary

On behalf of Adrian and the Youth and Vocation Committee, I am excited to announce we will be conducting Mock Job Interviews at Camberwell High School this year. This is to prepare Year 9 students for entering the world of work as part of their curriculum.

When: September 4^th and 6^th, 8.30am-12.00pm: SAVE THE DATE
Where: Camberwell High School, 100A Prospect Road, Canterbury
16 volunteers required on each morning, working in pairs, no experience necessary. I would hope that most volunteers could work both sessions
Rotary members, partners and friends welcome to volunteer
Working With Children Check essential (Camberwell High requirement)

I will be sending out the Volunteer Signup List by email mid July as well as information regarding the interview process. There will also be further support and guidance during August.

District 9800 Grants Seminar

A Global or District Grant from The Rotary Foundation can help our club start its projects sooner or expand the reach and impact of your project through increased scope and scale. To be eligible for a grant in 2024-2025, however, our club must be represented at one of two District 9800 Grants Seminars to be held on Zoom in July 2024.

The first seminar will be on Thursday July 11th from 6:00pm until 7:30pm.
The second seminar will be on Sunday July 21st, from 2:00pm until 3:30pm.

Club presidents, Foundation chairs and Avenue of Service chairs will especially benefit from attendance, but all members are welcome to attend and learn about the work of the Rotary Foundation and how clubs can access grant funding to increase the impact of club projects.

Global and District Rotary Foundation Grants are available to every eligible club in District 9800. I do hope that you will be able to attend, and that you will encourage your members to attend to learn more about how The Rotary Foundation can help clubs reach their service goals sooner.

August 24 – DONATIONS IN KIND OPEN DAY

All Rotarians are invited to attend the Open Day for Rotary Donations in Kind on Saturday 10th August 2024

Donations in Kind West Footscray, is a volunteer-based recycling facility and is part of Rotary’s Donations in Kind Network, a project of Rotary Australia World Community Service, (RAWCS.) It is a specialist operation that focuses on recycling goods with 85% of the goods processed being redeployed and just 11% sent to process recycling.

Donations In Kind processes goods donated by the corporate sector and distributes the goods through Rotary clubs to those in need wherever they are located, both locally and internationally.

We have also developed partnerships with several hospitals, aged care homes, schools and other suppliers who donate new and outdated stock to us. Rotary clubs then use this stock to fulfill projects in developing countries.

We would be delighted to welcome you to the store, participate in a guided tour with one of our senior volunteers, and participate in the formal opening ceremony at 11am.
