Volume 69 | Issue 45 | 11th June 2025

We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

Most likely my last membership activity of the year was to induct our latest member Vijay Susarla who is now our President Elect and from July 25 our new club President. That’s what you call “Fast Tracking”.

It was with a great deal of sadness that I announced the sad passing of Judy Pratt - wife of long term member Peter Pratt. Our sincere condolences go out to Peter and his family. Judy was a delightful lady who no doubt will be sadly missed.

Our new board for the 2025 – 2026 year met  for a board meeting post our dinner meeting. Naturally the major topic of discussion was the many aspects that need to be managed to ensure we start successfully. The new board will be made up of Vijay Susarla (President) George de Souza (Past President & Treasurer) Daya Govender (PE 2025 – 2026) Murray Anderson (Secretary) Chris Carra (Chair – International) Lyndon Joss (Chair Youth & Vocation) Nadia Hamilton (Chair Community) and Fabienne Nichola (Membership).

Next week we will meet at the Tower Hotel for a third and final trial. We look forward to seeing as many members there as possible so we can decide on our new venue.

Breaking the Silence on Men's Health
You are warmly invited to our new event on Tuesday 17 June over a business lunch midday to 2:30 pm at the Boroondara Arts Centre. If you are attending, it would be appreciated if you could bring a non-Rotarian with you.

Titled ‘Breaking the Silence on Men’s Health,’ our keynote speaker is Simon von Saldern, CEO and Director of ‘Healthy Male’ https://healthymale.org.au who is a leading expert in this field. He will deliver evidence-based health messages for greater awareness and educational guidance for individual and collective action to close the gap in health outcomes currently prevalent in men and boys.

Men’s health impacts families, friends and work colleagues. For the cost of a sandwich, this will be critical information on life-changing preventive measures and strategies to encourage treatment.

Please pass this on to your family, friends and colleagues.

Book now as numbers are limited – see QR code or https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1400229\

Community Talk: Turning towards Treaty
Taking place at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on Sunday, 22 June, it’s a great opportunity to learn about what Treaty is, what it means and how it can benefit all Victorians.
More information on the event can be found below, or by clicking on the link.

Join a community talk all about Treaty and improving health, education and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Hear from Uncle Andrew Gardiner, other key First Peoples leaders and representatives from:
  • First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria
  • Treaty Authority, the independent body overseeing Victoria’s Treaty negotiations
  • Reconciliation Victoria
The talk, with a panel discussion and Q&A, will be facilitated by the editor of Victorian Aboriginal News, Uncle Charles Pakana.

This is a free event. Find out more and register at  www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/treaty

Have you recorded your 2025 Art Show Volunteer Commitments in your Calendar?
By now you would have received a number of Signup Confirmation emails from Alan Lorenzini. Alan has allocated you to these Shifts based on your previous availability and workload.

It's important you record these Volunteer Shifts in your diary/calendar, and if you use a digital calendar, you can click on the "event-details-ics" file at the bottom of the email - this will put the shift straight into your digital diary.

But would you like to see a list of all your Shifts in one place? Of course you would, and it's easily done:
  1. Go to our Club website. Make sure you are logged in
  2. Click on "Member's Services" on the Home Page Menu Line, and select "My ClubRunner"
  3. Select the "Commitments" option, and there are all your Volunteer Tasks listed:

So you now can check and make sure all your Shifts are in your Calendar, either manual or digital. Remember the Art Show does not function efficiently if people do not attend for their allocated Shifts.
