We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

I am sure you share my sadness for the recent loss of the longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II, who devoted her whole life committed to service. She may be gone but her impact and legacy will be remembered by the world for many generations.
Last week a number of topics were included under the general theme of ‘The Future of the Club’ including:
A brief outline of each of the Committee’s planned activities
An outline of the 3-year Membership Plan
An overview of the CAS workshop focussing on the challenge of filling four key roles
A reminder of the Regionalisation member vote next week
Further details of the key Each One Bring One message are included elsewhere in the Bulletin. Members who wish to receive a summary of the full CAS or the Membership Workshop summaries of discussion, please contact the club’s Secretary juz_paragreen@hotmail.com
Thank you to members who volunteered last Sunday at two markets; special thanks to the fathers who gave up their time on Father’s Day:

This Wednesday, Vice President Patrick Docherty will be standing in for me at our meeting while I’m a short break. The guest speaker will be Dr Kasey Symons and the topic will be ‘Community Development Through Sport’ and will be chaired by David Baker.
As a priority and focus for the 2022-23 year and beyond, support from club members is central to its success. The club’s future viability and its community projects rely substantially on its member base increasing as the existing members' profile age.
John Walmsley and Justine Paragreen are heading to Timor Leste on the 30th September, for a week long visit as part of the Rotary Timor Consortium.
The main purpose of this visit will be to view some of the completed installations of the 20 Water Tanks under Stage 1 and Stage 2 as well as to see how far the Stage 3 construction of 3 Toilets has progressed.
The second purpose of the visit will be to agree upon the Stage 4 locations for more Water Tanks and /or Toilet Buildings and to obtain quotations for the construction of these items using locally purchased materials and labour from local villages.
John and Justine have received a request for A4 paper, pens, deflated volleyballs and soccer balls and would be delighted to receive any of these items from club members before they depart.
JOHN AND AUDREY ROLL INTO THE MARKET
Although we had positive feedback, numbers were down due to Dads’ Day. On the other hand, it didn’t stop John and Audrey Steven (with family members Bec and Ben at the controls) dropping a few ‘wheelies’ at the September 4 Hawthorn Makers Market (see pic). Both looked a million dollars and spent some time perusing what was on offer. And it was good having a number of new stallholders as well as our regulars. If you’re into curry for example, you would have loved new stallholder Bombay Spices (see pic of Neda Khan) who say…’ with their authentic homemade Indian spices, you can transform your curry cooking experience.’
It was in fact a vibrant market which continues to attract an increasing number if interesting stallholders. Artisan Gardens Melbourne offered the gift of greenery with a range of Terrariums and plants (see pic Glenn Trainor). Plus Market regular, Pookie May (Mary Horwill) is always on hand (see pic of Mary) pouring lattes and Cappuccinos for those desperately in need of some caffeine sustenance.
The next Hawthorn Makers Market is on Sunday 2nd October from 10-3 at the heritage Hawthorn Arts Centre. Come along! You’ll enjoy the experience and observe another successful Rotary Club fund raising event in full swing as well as discovering some amazing handmade goodies.
