69^th Happy Birthday - 02nd Nov.1956 – Rotary Club of Camberwell

We welcome Peter Shepheard in his official visit to our Club on 05^th Nov. 2025, in his capacity as the District Governor of D9800 2025-26. DG Peter met with our Board at a pre-dinner meeting discussing the Club’s current projects, and how District 9800 could support the projects in future.

Peter also reinforced the importance of membership growth by promoting the worthy work of the club to our network of friends and acquaintances. Peter encouraged members to share their own passion and reason for joining Rotary. be sure to speak first of all about this sense of belonging, unity with likeminded people and giving back. The key reason for member retention also is the strong friendships formed and the sense of belonging it brings.

Peter made an offer to take us on a tour of the Victoria market which few of us indicated an interest in taking up. This could be our Club’s Fellowship event in the near future !!

I received the following thank you note from Mandy Campbell:

“I would like to thank the board of directors, plus past and present members of the Rotary Club of Camberwell for the condolence card and stunning floral arrangement marking Adrians passing.

In addition, thank you to all members and partners who have reached out by sending cards and condolences to myself and the family, we are forever grateful.

Adrian is so deeply missed. We as a family are forever proud of the person he was along with wonderful contribution he made to the broader community.

Unfortunately, Chris Carra (Chair – International) resigned from the Club due to his business, travel and family commitments. However, he would be able to help with the Art Show and International in the background. He is planning to come back to the club in a couple of years. Thank you Chris for your outstanding contribution to our Club in various projects over three decades !!

We are fortunate that Amadini (Deputy Chair – International) has kindly agreed to step into the role of Chair – International for this Rotary year 2024 - 2025. Thank you Amadini.

Court In Session - The Hamiltons Take the Stand

Fellow Rotarian, Nadia Hamilton, recently (28th October) found herself in the Supreme Court – but fear not, no misdemeanours were involved. In fact, she was there to celebrate a win.

Nadia’s younger son Lance Hamilton has just been admitted as a lawyer to the Australian legal profession (see pic). A proud moment in any family – but the Hamiltons added their own special twist.

Who stood before the bench as the Moving Officer to formally welcome Lance into life in the law? His brother, Jake, also a lawyer – who missed out on all the courtroom ceremony when he was admitted during the Covid lockdown (no pomp, no fanfare, not even a handshake!).

And, as it turns out, this isn’t Jake’s first time in the role. He also acted as Moving Officer when his now-partner Annie was admitted (see pic)

We suspect the Hamiltons may soon require their own wing at the Supreme Court or at the very least, a loyalty coffee card.

Congratulations to Lance, Jake, Annie – and of course, to Nadia – on a truly case-winning family achievement.

Following our meeting on Friday, Michael, you asked me to send out more detail about a proposed Cluster Quiz Contest being planned for Thursday 12 March next. Here ’tis.

Each club should provide a team of three members, one with over ten years experience, one with less than two years membership, and each team to have mixed genders.

Two teams will play off in each round. Each team member will have their own buzzer with light. The first to buzz in will have the chance to answer. If incorrect, the opposing team will have the chance to do so. It is proposed ten questions be asked in each round, half Rotary-based and half general knowledge. The number of rounds needed to determine the two finalists will depend on the numbers of clubs competing.

If neither team answers correctly then the question may be answered by those at one of the club tables, as nominated by an adjudicator. Apart from the winning team, the table with the most points will also win prizes.

Including their teams of three, in late February Clubs will be asked to book a table/s for dinner in support. Partners will be most welcome.

Since all the questions will be compiled confidentially, similar to the successful 1993 RI Convention Quiz here in Melbourne, it will help if clubs indicate their wish to participate asap. Please let me know directly once you have decided.

The quiz will take place no matter the club number but it will add to the atmosphere and fun on the night the more Rotarians and guests who take part.
