We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

Another busy week at Camberwell Rotary. The monthly Hawthorn Makers Market (HMM) was held on 2 April. Fortunately, HMM was bathed in sunshine and it was great to see the event well supported with members and patrons. Special thanks to Teresa Molella and her crew for all their work to make this market successful. At the same time, the Camberwell Sunday Market was assisted by members Jeevan Vasimalla, Nick Pane and Kieran Healy.

On Tuesday 11 April, the ROMP (The Rotary Outreach Myeloma) headed to Shepparton to a multiple Rotary club meeting to outline the valued offering to selected Registered Nurses employed in rural and regional cancer centres or clinics in Victoria by way of a scholarship to complete a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing at Melbourne University. The presenters, Peter Allan, Adrian Campbell and Trish O’Hara were well received and indications are there will be increased take up in the near future. Thank you to the Committee for all their efforts, in particular, Alan Lorenzini, George de Souza, Don Jago and Jim O’Hara for attending.

Last week guest speaker was Kristina Nicol presenting her Member behind the Badge (MBTB). It was a very comprehensive account a full life lived in multiple locations in multiple occupations including the military. Also present was Camp Getaway’s Ken Maxwell who offered his gratitude for the recent members’ working bee. He specially mentioned the ongoing work of Andy Spry and Steve Clarke. Camp Getaway is essentially a ‘getaway’ to give parents (particularly regional folks) respite as well as an activity filled venue for young people with disabilities. This has now being extended to family groups, church groups, clubs, special functions, business meetings, and recreational groups. The club has and will continue to support this great community service.

Thank you to members who were rostered at the Camberwell Sunday Market on 9 April while the rest of us enjoyed the Easter break. They are Michelle Critchley, Brenda Innes, George de Souza and Geoff Heath.

Wishing you all a very happy Easter as well as happy Passover.

Next club meeting will on Thursday 13 April 2023 at Green Acres. This will be an Eastside Cluster meeting with guest speaker Past District Governor Julie Mason. This will replace the normal club meeting which would otherwise be held on Wednesday 12 April.

Look forward to seeing you then.
President Rotary Club of Camberwell 2022-23

Community Connect Days with Lend Lease Living
Lend Lease Living will hopefully be a Bronze Art Show Sponsor this year. As part of that sponsorship I have agreed that we would support and attend a "Community Connect Day" at each of two properties.

These Community Connect Days are a way for LLL to showcase their properties, and as an extra "thank you", if we can get a minimum of 10 attending each event, they will give us 2 x $500 on top of the sponsorship.

So please make note of the following dates and times, or better still click the links and register your attendance:
Please come and support one or both of these events, bring your partner, spouse or friend. It will be fun and you will be supporting one of our Art Show Sponsors.

ESRAG Environment Action Summit
Pre-Convention May 25 2023
This year ahead of RICON, ESRAG has organised an Environment Action Summit on Thursday, 25 May. This is to be held in the CBD and will feature leading environmental keynote speakers including Professor David Karoly, an internationally recognised expert on climate change and climate variability and Patrick McCafferty, Managing Director of Yarra Valley Water and Chair of the Thriving Communities Partnership. The Summit will also showcase a number of outstanding Rotary environmental projects.

Delegates will be invited to meet in breakout groups to develop practical ideas for Rotary club and district environmental projects. These ideas for projects will be collated into environmental action guides and made available to Rotary clubs and districts worldwide. The summit is not just for overseas delegates to RICON, as we live nearby all Melbourne Rotarians can attend.

Come and learn and share some of the innovative projects of your club and district with other delegates.
