We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

An East side Cluster was held in lieu of the club’s normal meeting at Green Gables on Thursday 13 April, 2023. It was pleasing to see representatives from club members outside of the Cluster including the Kew and the Chadstone East Malvern Rotary Clubs.
In attendance was the District Governor Amanda Wendt and her partner Greg, District Governor Elect Ron Payne, Assistant Governor Robert Fisher and three representatives from Boroondara City Council. The guest speaker of the night was Past District Governor Julie Mason. The theme of her presentation was Rotary in Action – One Voice. Essentially Julie galvanised the 4 clubs of the Wyndham Cluster to collectively connect formally with community groups in one event. This was the concept of presenting Rotary as one voice. The format has evolved over time from showcasing Rotary projects to rotating ‘table presentations’ by prominent community leaders with each table headed by a Rotarian facilitator. It has been a positive process of mutual understanding and Rotary clubs more integrated into the community providing more insights on needy cohorts and potential for collaboration.
The Rotary - One Voice concept is one the current cluster’s agenda to canvas the potential to adopt over time. A lot of work is required with the existing and incoming Cluster Presidents to determine if this is a goal we wish to pursue and the scope within which this will work. On a positive note, it is a great move to work together with our clubs and present a united Rotary front to our local community.
We were saddened to hear of the passing away of Claire Sanders earlier this week following a long illness. Claire was being cared for at Regis Aged Care, East Malvern over the past few years. I visited Claire in late August last year and she appeared to be well cared for, always smiling and happy. John Sanders has been the model of a caring and loving husband supporting Claire over this period. It was great to meet and welcome their son Stefan as a guest at the club last week and together with his sister Trudy were present during this challenging time. As a past member of the club for a short time prior to her illness, Claire was always cheery, friendly and engaging. Our thoughts are with John and his family at this sad time and we extend our sincere condolences to John and his family from all members of the Camberwell Rotary Club. The club was represented at the wake on Saturday 15 April.
Congratulations to Past President Patrick Docherty who was made a life member of the South Camberwell Cricket Club. Patrick has been long standing, active and committed member of the Cricket Club and is deserving of the acknowledgement.
Thank you to members David Troon, Yvonne Wills, Nav Muniratna and Peter Pratt who were rostered at the Camberwell Sunday Market on 16 April.
Next club meeting will on Wednesday 19 April 2023 and John Dean will be our guest speaker. To commemorate ANZAC day on Friday 21 April, John will outline his cousin’s heroic story in World War two. Leslie Gordon Knight, DSO (7 March 1921 – 16 September 1943) was an Australian bomber pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War. This promises to be a fascinating story of a local Camberwell resident who became a national hero.
Thank you all for your valued support of RIMERN, for the great work done by your
volunteers, particularly the Management Committee members Phil Young & David
Troon, Goods Selection Host Jo-Anne Tamlyn, Justine Paragreen (for her corporate
team) and all the others who have helped out at the warehouse from time to time.
We also greatly appreciate the generous contribution of the additional $5,000 over
and above your annual commitment, which will be applied to our increased rent and
outgoings incurred following our sub-tenant, Canard Solutions’ vacation of half the
premises at Lincoln Street East Brunswick.
We have recently set up a meeting space upstairs and invite your Club to hold a
weekly meeting at the warehouse, so that all your members can see what’s
happening at RIMERN, where your funds are going and hear some client stories and
feedback that make the work so very worthwhile. There are local cafes and coffee
shops that can cater for an event such as this so please pick a date & let’s make it happen!
RIMERN is very much your Club’s community service and environment project, a
powerful part of the circular economy and a great new membership and PR tool
should you wish to invite potential new members to get involved in a fun and
effective hands on volunteering project.
Thanks again for your support, it’s a huge help!
Kind Regards,
Susie Cole
Chair

FORaMEAL Packing Event
Federation Square | Saturday 27th May
The Rotary Club of Canterbury will be conducting a FORaMEAL
packing event with the aim of packing 100,000 meals in a day on Saturday 27 May 2023 at Federation Square.
They require people to assist as bump in and bump out volunteers and supervisors for this auspicious event.
For those who willing to be part of the bump in and out teams you must register and indicate your preference and availability.
They require all who are willing to undertake the supervisor’s role to attend a Train the Trainer session.
These Train the Trainer sessions will be held at different sites so that attendees have a choice of location and date that would suite them best to attend.
Lend Lease Living will hopefully be a Bronze Art Show Sponsor this year. As part of that sponsorship I have agreed that we would support and attend a "Community Connect Day" at each of two properties.
These Community Connect Days are a way for LLL to showcase their properties, and as an extra "thank you", if we can get a minimum of 10 attending each event, they will give us 2 x $500 on top of the sponsorship.
So please make note of the following dates and times, or better still click the links and register your attendance:
Please come and support one or both of these events, bring your partner, spouse or friend. It will be fun and you will be supporting one of our Art Show Sponsors.
Join us for a celebration of Victorian environmental sustainability initiatives. Learn more from an assembled expert panel about how your own organisation can benefit and get involved over a sustainable lunch designed with a low carbon footprint from sustainable sources.
The Rotary clubs of Glenferrie, Hawthorn and Camberwell will welcome Rotarians from all over the world, in Melbourne to attend the Rotary International Convention 2023. Featuring as guest speaker a notable past Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club Champion, and a program celebrating Marvellous Melbourne, this will be a night to savour, and to Imagine Rotary.
