We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

I can’t remember the last time we had so much fun at a pre grand final club fellowship meeting. Congratulations to the Fellowship Committee for putting on a great night. The Quiz Master challenged us with footy trivia including questions dating well before our time. The hall was adorned with red, blue and white balloons and streamers. It was a first for many to hear some enthusiastic renditions of AFL team songs and we also witnessed members’ handball skills. To top it off the footy food was varied, plentiful and enjoyed by all.

Club business items covered on the night are:
  • Murray Anderson provided an update of the 2023 Camberwell Art Show update and asked members to consider nominating for the 4 vacant positions
  • A reminder to reply to the Secretary for your vote for the regional trial (juz_paragreen@hotmail.com)
  • A further reminder to register for Melbourne RICON 23 while the early bird price is still available

A matter of importance for your attention is for your assistance to locate a missing club award. In 2017 the club received an ANZAC Peace prize and Citation for the ‘Seeds of Peace’ Project led by Adrian Campbell (which is the subject of an article in this Bulletin). Kindly advise Secretary Justine if you have any information regarding the whereabouts of the medallion and citation.

Thank you to the members who volunteered at the last Camberwell Sunday market – Murray Anderson, Joe Yeh, Nadia Hamilton and Yvonne Wills.

Next week’s meeting will be on Tuesday 27 September at Green Acres. The Balwyn Rotary Club will host the meeting with special guest speaker Professor Michael Woodward presenting the latest research findings on a possible cure for Alzheimer.

I hope you all enjoyed the Grand Final. Look forward to seeing you next Tuesday night.

Albury Wodonga Rotary Peace Bell.

Last Wednesday 21/9 was the International Day of Peace & Adrian Campbell and George de Souza represented the Camberwell Club at the unveiling of the Albury Wodonga Rotary Peace Bell.

Cr Kevin Poulton (Mayor of Wodonga) & Cr Kylie King (Mayor City of Albury) did the opening honours, which was shared by a group of some 100 people at Belvoir Park, Wodonga in front of local print and TV media.

The Rotary Club of Camberwell has a proud history of promoting and participating in community peace projects, & we were mentioned in the official ceremony as contributors to this wonderful project.

For background, the Albury Wodonga Peace Bell is a replica of the first world peace bell - donated in 1954 by Japan to the United Nations in New York.

The pagoda is modelled on a Hanamido (a small temple) - and the peace bell rang for the first time at the opening ceremony.

The Wodonga West Rotary Club is a partner of our Club's successful ROMP initiative in regional Victoria.

George & Adrian can confirm that Camberwell Rotary is held in very high esteem in Wodonga.

( PS - a shout out to Peter Allen who came down with a bad cold last minute & could not participate in the road trip north to the border )

Grand Final Fellowship Night 2022
Is the President's Influence Growing?
This week saw tangible signs emerge of the growing influence of President Fabienne taking root in the local community. The President has reportedly been busy building a mass of support for her beloved Cats in the East, with loud cheers being reported across the Boroondara region with each Cats goal on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Cats and their supporters within Rotary Camberwell.
