We gather together on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri and Woi Wurrung people. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future together.

Jon Oppy provided an inspiring outline of the success of Oppy Heat Treatment & Consulting Metallurgists from its humble beginnings initiated by his father, taking over the business in 1973 to its ultimate recent sale. As a result of a lifetime of effort, the adoption of innovative technology, strategic leadership and market positioning, Jon’s company became one of the leading heat treatment suppliers in Australia.
Jon joined the Camberwell Rotary Club 42 years ago and has been rewarded with strong friendships, achieving remarkable community projects, held numerous club positions including club president and the Camberwell Art Show Chair a number of times as well as enjoying some out of the ordinary experiences while on Fellowship exchange overseas. A remarkable quality Jon adopts is his attitude of staying open to change as Rotary evolves over time.
We were privileged to enjoy the company of an overseas visitor Malcolm Bernard, from the Rotary Club of Sheffield Vulcan, England, and his Melbourne host from Ashburton, Alan Chuck.

Next week’s speaker will be CEO of Foodbank Victoria, David McNamara. As the current economic climate results in hardship in our community, Foodbank provides vital meals to those in need. David will outline how Foodbank is managing the recent increased volume of demand. The Camberwell Rotary Club played an important role in the initial establishment of Foodbank and is proud of the support and relief Foodbank continues to bring to our local community.
In case you didn't know, the distance from Tarneit to Camberwell is around 40km by car. By public transport, it's equally challenging. But not for Rotarian Kemi (Showbowale) who recently took up residence in Tarneit.
So what's it all about?
Last Sunday (6 November), Kemi put her hand 'up' for rostering at the Camberwell Sunday Market, followed by a stint at the Hawthorn Makers Market. All in one day.
"I left my car at the railway station near Tarneit really early and then took the train to the city and changed trains for Camberwell," Kemi said. "It's been a long day." And that's just one-way.
Kemi has set the bar high and her contribution and support is greatly appreciated- notwithstanding the tyranny of distance from Tarneit on the other side of 'town.'

"IT WAS A LOVELY DAY FOR THE MARKET"
So said Teresa (Molella) in her report on the Sunday 6 November Hawthorn Makers Market.
"Weather was perfect for the November market – a sunny day with little or no breeze. Attendance was the best for the year and positive feedback was received from many who attended" she added.
The Market had a familiar festive feel about it and as usual, an ecclectic range of gift ideas (see pics) ranging from yummy Rotary Christmas Cakes to Dog Nekerchiefs plus, a stallholder offering an impressive range of dolls' clothes.
There was something for everyone. In fact, it was smiles all round including our regular strolling minstrel, Phil the Accordian Man who meandered throughout the venue (see pic). The upcoming Christmas Market is the big one and not to be missed if you're after that unique, authentic handmade gift.
