Our 2023 Achievements
From the 1st to 14th of December 2023, 11 dedicated members of Team Nepal embarked on a successful and impactful humanitarian mission to Nepal–our first trip to the region since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our journey was filled with meaningful experiences and valuable insights that we are excited to share with you.
In 2023, we raised a remarkable $10,294.45 through generous donations from Rotary Clubs, friends, families, and bake sales. The majority of these funds were allocated to purchasing and transporting medications and medical supplies, and a portion was reserved to support our long-term goals.
The highlight of our trip was the 4-Day Free Health Camp held in our partner community, Bhakanje, a rural village within the same district as Mt. Everest. We provided medical care to patients with ages ranging from 3 to 99 years old. Over the 4 days, we treated 282 patients, many of whom travelled for hours on foot to receive medical attention.
We not only achieved our primary objectives but learned valuable lessons that will enhance the effectiveness of future missions and better meet the community's needs.
During our trip, we identified an opportunity to better tailor the medications we bring to suit the community's specific needs. Additionally, we gained crucial insights into the importance of including essential hygiene items, such as dental equipment, in our future supplies. We also recognised the need to address the barriers that many patients face in accessing specialist treatment or tests, due to costs and travel time.
Moving forward, we have set new long-term goals in addition to our current goals to enhance the impact of our efforts. This includes allocating funds for medical transportation of patients to nearby surgical hospitals for day procedures, as well as arranging follow-up care, such as the provision of post-operative medications.
