It's officially the Yarra Bank Reserve playground and has been brought back to life thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Camberwell, Canterbury, Glenferrie and Hawthorn with the generous support of the Rotary Foundation. And it marks the Centenary year of Rotary in Australia. The superceded playground equipment was packed up by Rotarians and is now on its way to Nepal where it will be restored and installed in a Nepalese community by the Rotary Club of Kathmandu. The'fun of the fair' atmosphere finally came to fruition after several 'on-off, on-off' cancelled openings due to Covid restrictions. And what a day it was. From 'ankle biters' to grandparents, it was a kids' (and adults) paradise with a touch of mayhem, magic, popcorn and a sausage sizzle. The Park was opened by City of Boroondara Mayor Garry Thompson and Rotary District 9800 Governor, Dale Hoy. The new Playground sculpture was designed by world renowned play equipment artist Benjamin Gilbert of Agency Sculpture and features an interactive sculpture that they say ...'will capture the spirit of place of this beautiful park'. Camberwell Rotarian Teresa Mollela and Past President Murray Anderson have been the driving force behind our Club's support for the project with Past President Geoff McCormick having lent his support right at the start.
