Rotary friends and friends of Rotary, thank you to everyone who attended our meeting, it was a truly inspirational presentation about the future of Rotary by Jesse Harman.

We bid bon voyage to Chris Howell who has been able to book a flight in the coming weeks to Texas to see Bill, Chris will be on extend leave.
It was great to see so many club members brave the elements and visit the Hawthorn Markers Market last Sunday. Teresa’s update: It was a smaller market than we would have liked as we were limited to only 10 indoor stalls. There were 23 outdoors but we had a few last-minute withdrawals due to illness. We counted 372 visitors who passed our desk inside the entrance - a reasonable number & donations collected are estimated at around $380. This includes the 23 jars of honey kindly and generously provided by Lyndon.
Next week with have Tim Forcey as our guest speaker and he will be talking about improving winter home comfort and energy efficiency, a meeting not to be missed! So why not bring a guest along??
That’s it from me for this week, have a good week in Rotary
Fun for all the family is planned for the grand opening of the Rotary 100 Playground at Yarra Bank Reserve on August 8th commencing at 12:00pm, with children's entertainment, food and drink and, lots of music on the way to make it a sparkling day.
This Playground redevelopment is an R100 project in conjunction with the City of Boroondara, with the Rotary Clubs of Glenferrie and Camberwell as major contributors, and well as the Rotary Clubs of Canterbury and North Balwyn.
The Playground Opening, featuring the unique Rotary interactive play sculpture, will begin a series of events in Boroondara aimed at raising the profile of Rotary, attracting new members and celebrating 100 years of Doing Good in the World. It is hoped that every Rotarian will bring their families and friends, and especially the little ones, to experience the Grand Opening and the playground. So be sure to spread the word!
The playground will be opened by the Mayor of Boroondara, Cr. Garry Thompson, who will be joined by District Governor Dale Hoy in a ceremony heralding a celebration of the achievements of the past century, and welcoming the start of the next 100 years.
Acknowledging the significance of the Yarra bank area to First Nations peoples, a smoking ceremony and welcome to country is planned, to be offered by the traditional owners of the land, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
Construction of the new playground at Yarra Bank Reserve is now well advanced, with the Rotary contribution, the unique interactive play sculpture, expected to be installed either this week, or next, depending upon Covid-19 restrictions. The design of the sculpture has included unique features, developed by Benjamin Gilbert at Agency of Sculpture, to enable little arms to row the huge oars that are a key play feature of the sculpture, while protecting little hands and heads from injury. With musical features, water features and some other things never before seen in a play feature, the Yarra Bank Reserve's new playground will delight families for years to some, a fitting tribute and a special gift, from Rotary to the families of Boroondara.
The hull of the canoe is taking shape. The final version will be polished and burnished
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the 43 members of the Club who assisted at the Camberwell Sunday market between December 2020 (when it recommenced) and the end of June 2021. Filling four X 3 hour shifts on a weekly basis is not always easy so thank you to each of those members (and also participating partners) for your support of the Club’s commitment to an event that funds a huge amount of community good.
A special shout out and thank you goes to the five members who volunteered for 4 shifts: BrendaInnes, George de Souza, Gary Goldsmith, KerryAnne Frost and Alan Lorenzini. And the eight members who volunteered for 3 shifts: Patty Laufenberg, John De Carro, Murray Anderson, Peter Gray, Maria Weichers, Josie Tramonte, Phil Young and Steve Clarke. Thank you so much!
I hope you are all keeping well. I am writing to you all today in a last bd effort to get a project done that our Cluster has been working on for over 12 months.
Working with the East Gippsland Rotary Clubs and Landcare we would like to achieve the planting of 7000 trees over the weekend of 31st July/1st August.
Due to the last Covid 19 lockdown our initial planting date has been and gone. We are running out of time to get these trees into the ground.
I ask if you could kindly extend an invitation to your members to join us at this wonderful project.
I do apologise for the very late notice but I am not prepared to cancel the project. As Victorians are free to travel many of our initial volunteers have taken the opportunity to travel interstate so I am seeking more volunteers.
The goal of this project was to plant as many trees as possible over a weekend, to inject much needed income into these towns who during covid have seen very few holiday makers and of course enjoy the fellowship of fellow Rotarians. Peter Sindrey, President of Lakes Entrance Rotary has worked tirelessly to make this project happen and it is up to us to ensure we see the project through.
Ideally I would like to confirm our numbers to Peter no later than Monday next week 31st July/1st August:
Rotarians and or friends of Rotarians to book their own accommodation. We will be based in Bairnsdale. A variety of accommodation is available.
Lunch will be provided on both the Saturday and the Sunday, buses will transport our volunteers out to 4 properties
A function will be organised at the Bairnsdale RSL for Saturday night 31st August
We encourage our volunteers to bring basic gardening tools,. (gloves, hand tools, spades, rakes, picks etc..)
Good footwear is essential
Wet weather gear.
